An experiment in cheapness

Bryan and I are trying to go the entire month of October without spending ANY money. I saw an article about a family who tried this, so we decided it would be an interesting experiment. The idea is to see which expenditures we do/don't miss during our month of no spending and to see how resourceful we can be. Hopefully we will come out of it with some ideas on how to simplify our lives and to be better stewards of the resources we are blessed with.

Here are the ground rules starting today:

1. We will pay our necessary bills and tithe.

2. We can buy gas for our cars.

3. We can buy milk and fresh fruit.

The plan is that we will not make any purchases, go out to eat, or spend any money that can be avoided. I am planning to chronicle our experiment in our blog so that everyone can see if we succeed and if we learn anything during our spending freeze. I'm glad my blog is free! Technically our internet access is not free, but because it is bundled with other bills and wouldn't be cost-effective to cancel for one month, we will keep it. Luckily I won't have to drive to the library to check my e-mail and write the blog!

Very interesting! I will be excited to see what comes of this. Maybe I could learn a thing or two about saving on eating out. That is our vice!!1
